I've become obsessed with sewing little squares together. By hand of course 'cos that's how I roll! I've been travelling a bit lately, and while my fingers still had the itch to stitch, I needed something portable. But more importantly, something
therapeutic, rhythmical and soothing.

So I pack it all into my Queen Elizabeth 1953 Coronation tin (love that tin) and off I go. Because sometimes I think that's how you have to approach life too-just one little bit at a time.
How lovely ~ it's looking fabulous! x
ReplyDeleteYou will think I am totally bonkers ............... but I long to make patchwork curtains, using tiny patches like you have shown. I have never done anything like this before. Why do you wrap the patches around paper (cardboard) squares? Easier? Correct method? Is it quite easy to cut the paper(card) out afterwards?? Hope you don't mind my asking. Love your blog ........ Warm regards, Francesca
ReplyDeleteHi Norma!
ReplyDeleteI wrap them around the card (well, it's really just thick paper) then stitch the squares on with really big stitches. When I have a few of these squares I stitch the edges together using tiny slip stitches, when a square is completely surrounded by other squares, I undo the original big stitches (using a contrasting thread is helpful, and good for using up threads in odd colours) and the card just slips out, to be re-used for another patch. Not sure if this is the correct method or not but it just seems to make the edges line up better and the squares more squarey if you know what I mean. I remember Mum doing the same with hexagons... Your curtains would look awesome! Just make sure to machine sew the whole thing to a backing fabric like an old sheet or something as they would be quite heavy and the stitching of the topmost patches would probably stretch and come apart after a short time. Hope that helps! Love to see your finished curtains xx
