A tutu and two birthdays

It's my 1 yr blog birthday today. So I'd like to say a big Thank You to all those who have read, commented, supported, swapped, shared and generally been part of this experience for me. Here's something I finished last night...

It's a tutu and fairy wand for one of Islas' friends, who is a very "girly" girl, and is turning 4 this week.

I made it in the same way as this one which I gave Isla for Christmas. However, as can sometimes happen, it turned into a bit of an experiment. I had purchased 1metre of tulle, but as I began to make the tutu it became immediately apparent that it was not going to be enough. So out came the box of ribbons, and I added all sort of different textures and lengths, trying to stick to the basic colour scheme of baby pinks, blues, white and silver.

I also added a waistband, just sewing over the top of the elastic, to make it softer against the skin. I'm really pleased with the way it turned out!

The wand is simple too-just beaded felt attached to a piece of dowel from the hardware shop. I'm sure the man in there thinks I'm slightly mad, but he happily cuts up my dowel pieces for me each time I go in.

I wouldn't mind one of these for myself to be honest xx
